Tadpoles sports day and leavers function

On Friday 19th of July Tadpoles held its annual sports day and leavers function. We were blessed with some fantastic weather and the event was attended by over 150 people. The free event which included drinks and a BBQ was a great success; all the tadpoles moving onto big school received a gift from Tadpoles as well as the little ones who will be remaining at tadpoles for another year.

Cathy would like to thank all parents for their continued support. We hope you all enjoy this glories summer, have wonderful holidays and we will see you all again in September.

Best wishes Cathy

Tadpoles Preschool in Brent Knoll held its annual walk to the top of Brent Knoll in order to raise valuable funds for the Meningitis Trust
It’s the 10th year that Tadpoles has supported the Toddle Waddle and this year like all the others was very well supported by both parents and children who attend the preschool.
Cathy Hurley (owner) said “We walk weekly at Tadpoles and the children really enjoy the opportunity to learn about the outdoors, experiencing firsthand stiles, animals and plants.
Once a year it is really nice for the children to bring parents and grandparents to show them the wonderful countryside around Brent Knoll. I would  like to thank all those who have supported the event both past and present, hopefully we can exceed last year’s total of over £250.

Dear Parents
Welcome back.
Firstly congratulations to all those children who applied to start Brent Knoll Primary in September, we were delighted that everybody secured a place
Thank you to Cara and her parents for allowing us to see their pet marmoset on Monday. The monkey is only 4 months old and will be visiting again for all those children who missed Leo’s first visit.
There are lots of activities planned for this term; the first and most important being the Toddle Waddle.
The entire preschool, all children, parents, grandparents, etc. are invited to join us climb the knoll to raise funds for the Meningitis fund.
We will be leaving Tadpoles at 9.30am on Friday 17th April, climbing to the top, having a drink and biscuit and returning to preschool.
This event is open to all children and their families and we love to see as many as possible. Last year we raised over £250 for a very worthy cause and would like to try for a similar amount this year.
A sponsor form is attached for collection of names. (Please let us know if you and your child will be joining us if this is not a normally attended day.)
I am also arranging a visit from the owl rescue centre who will bring a selection of owls and hawks to the setting; date to be confirmed.
We have received the grand total of three family trees so far, I’m sure you have all simply forgotten to send them in, but we would appreciate them ASAP! (It is not necessary to have photos of all family members, a written tree is better than none.)
Lastly thank you for your patience during our building which will continue this half term with a porch and enlarged bay window being built. This will hopefully be done at weekends, and will ultimately enable us to maximise the space within the building.

Dear parents

Firstly we would like to wish you all a good Easter and an enjoyable break with your children
.
Hopefully by the time we return the render on the front of the house will be completed and the mess will be reduced to a more manageable level.

On our return (15th April) we will begin more focused “school work” with those children moving to school, as well as more visits to school to use facilities such as toilets, water fountain, play equipment and the field. Children will have the opportunity to have snack in the field with the school children (weather permitting)
.
As soon as families have their places confirmed we will be spending time in the school setting and having visits from the reception class teacher, who will get to see the children in their own environment.

All transition visits such as story time and play afternoons are supported by Tadpoles and we encourage children to join us for the walk to school and then meet parents afterwards if not a usual day. This approach has been very successful in previous years and the children feel comfortable going into class with their peers.

As you will see from the themes we are looking at the aspects of being human during the first half term.

To assist us to complete the children’s records, assist the reception class teacher and to give the children a visual prompt as to the makeup of their own families I would ask that you might complete a family tree for (and with) your child. Please include the nicknames/ familiar names that your child uses as when talking about relatives. Grandparents titles, particularly, leads to lots of confusion. (For example my own children call their grandfather Grumps; he is!)
An example is enclosed, but feel free to design your own. Photos, if possible, are a huge help, but we understand this may not be achievable. If there are any members you wish to omit, please do so.

In the second half of the term we will be focusing on specific areas of learning and working to embed learning which occurs on a daily basis for all children. Those older or more able will be doing extended work around the themes and hopefully become familiar with the types of teaching schemes they will encounter at school. In line with the “Jolly Phonics”  scheme of reading; focus on individual sounds will be explored in greater detail to our usual use of these sounds.
